Today the town is an outstanding “museum in the open air”, containing more examples of architectural monuments than any other Russian town. Within a small area there are four monasteries and several dozens of Russian Orthodox churches built in different times in different styles. Among its attractions is the Kremlin surrounded by ancient ramparts, magnificent complex of the Monastery of Our Savior and St. Euthimius, the Convent of the Intercession of Our Lady and the Museum of Wooden Architecture and peasant life.
