The Solovetsky Archipelago has the status of a specially protected area, historical, architectural and natural museum-reserve. The most famous among the islands of the archipelago is the Big Solovetsky Island. It is here that the only village of the archipelago and the main historical, spiritual and natural attractions of the museum are located.
The Solovetsky Monastery, which is one of the largest spiritual and cultural centers of Russia, was founded in the 15th century by the monks Zosima and German. The cloister played an outstanding role in the history of the strengthening of the Russian state in the northern territories.
The following excursion programs are available for order, including a transfer from the city of Kemi:
• History of the Solovetsky archipelago, 3 hours. Sightseeing walking tour of the village of Solovetsky along the shore of the White Sea to the gates of the Solovetsky Monastery.
• History and architecture of the monastery, 1.5 hours. Inspection of the monuments of the central complex of the Solovetsky Monastery.
• One day on Solovki. Car-walking tour. It includes a tour of the central monastery complex, a hike to the foot of the Sekirnaya Mountain, on which the Ascension Church stands, a trip to Cape Labyrinths, mysterious monuments of antiquity.
